  1. How do you go about accumulating the data and calculating these ratings?

I’m less interested in your formula (actually I am but that’s not what I’m getting to here) as I am whether the data is entered manually into a spreadsheet or database, imported somehow, your source of data, software used etc…

I would like to build something for personal use next season where I can calculate daily ratings, look at the moving average of the rating, note injuries, etc… for personal analysis but it would be a very labor intensive task without a good source for importing much of the information.

    Thanks

  2. [...] Raptors continue to slide towards the bottom of the league in Wayne Winston’s NBA Ratings… but at least they don’t have any players on this list of the NBA’s worst [...]

  6. Wayne,

I know I am going way past the limit here, but if you are bored and care to respond I would appreciate the help until I pick up one of your books. I did some investigation on the web.

I was able to import the table of scores for Knicks games here:

    http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/NYK/2011_games.html

Now I have a nice “Knicks” spreadsheet to which I can add notes on game injuries, your rating for the Knicks and their opponent on the night of each game, and anything else I deem relevant for a specific game.

The potential problem I see is that when I update it weekly I suspect it will simply overlay any incremental information I added. That would be a problem.

Also, I assume I will have to do this import manually for each team weekly or is there a way to automate the update for all 30 teams after an initial setup?

  7. Under league they have each game listed. when you refresh web query it puts in the new games. Just make your notes where it does not intersect the results of the query.

  10. Wayne

I still have to do these updates for each of the 30 teams daily/weekly correct?

I don’t see a single page where every game is listed. Each game is listed by team.

  13. Wayne,

I may have to buy two of your books just to make up for all the help you’ve given me. Your generosity is very appreciated. ;-)

  14. Buy Mathletics. The data in that book is highly respected and sought after from the NBA offices all the way to the sports books of Vegas. My copy has so many notes and folded pages that I will be buying a new by summer.

  15. WAYNE,

I found that Bosch makes the Heat about 8.5 pts better on the court. Does this appear accurate given your data?

    Thanks for you help.
