NBA Trends and Facts March 7

Filed under: Uncategorized — wwinston @ 12:02 pm

Here are some interesting facts gleaned from our Adjusted +/- numbers.

  • Hinrich (-16 offensive rating) has really hurt Hawks offense.
  • Kristic +13 Points rating has helped Celtics. But Murphy -35 and Green -6 have hurt them.
  • Rose +37 Impact and Korver +27 Impact need to both be in for Bulls to be great, Surprisingly Asik has an excellent +16 Impact.
  • For the Cavs Harris +11, Parker +9 and Eyenga +7 have solid Points ratings the last 2 weeks.
  • Dirk is great (+14 points +25 Impact) but Terry +9 points has amazing +45 Impact. Peja +9 Points has played well but RoddyB has a -25 points rating and needs to regain last year’s form for Mavs to be a title threat.
  • Nene +32 Impact may finally get the respect he deserves with Melo gone. Chandler Gallo and Felton average +6 points and +6 Impact rating so Denver did get value.
  • Lowry +12 points and +54 Impact is by far the NBA’smost underappreciated  player.
  • Blake Griffin (no surprise) is soldi with +9 points and+24 Impact rating. See below that Landry Fields should also be considered for ROY.
  • The Laker’s recent surge is keyed by the great defense in the last 2 weeks of Fisher -15, Artest -14 and Bynum -17.
  • Battier +20 rating  +77 Impact has given Grizz a big boost. I would not want to face them in playoffs.
  • For Heat during the recent skid Anthony -18, Chalmers -11 Dampier -12 Miller -24 and Wade -8  Points ratings should shoulder the blame.
  • Wesley Johnson +6 points rating +8 Impact, is almost as effective as Kevin Love but gets no Love.
  • Chris Paul +13 Points and +35 Impact is great but the underrated Okafor’s -9 defense helps get it done.
  • Landry Fields’ +28 Impact shows how good he is and he should be talked about for ROY.Melo with -10 points and +9 defense has done nothing exceptional. Billups +9 points and +51 Impact has been great.
  • Zach Lowe (read his great stuff on cnnsi.com) mentioned that Magic gave up more points with Howard in than Howard out. When you adjust for who he plays with and against, his defensive rating is an excellent -9 points, as expected.
  • Elton Brand gets no credit for his great year; +6 points -9 defense and +36 Impact.
  • Steve Nash is the league’s best +21 points and +58 Impact. Brooks with a +6 points rating has been a huge upgrade over Dragic.
  • For Blazers Rudy (+10 Points +32 Impact) and Miller +7 points +19 Impact are so underrated.
  • The King’s Udrih with + 28 Impact has been a surprise.
  • For the Raptors Amir Johnson (+8 points +24 Impact) and Bargnani (+6 points, +40 Impact_ have been great. Weems -42 Impact and DeRozan -35 Impact kill them.
  • If Wall can improve his +8 defensive rating he will realize his potential as a star player.

As they said in Clueless NBA ratings based on whole season “are so 5 years ago.” Therefore here afre ratings based entirely on the last 30 days. Note that the unsung 76ers and Grizzlies are really playing well. The Celtics and Bulls have not played nearly as well as people think.
