NBA Ratings 2-10-11

Again, I give around twice as much weight to most recent game as first game of season. Hawks are not nearly as good as their record indicates and Grizzlies are much better than their record indicates. If the WOlves could play defense they would be pretty good! The Mavs continute to win but drop in the rankings because they barely beat Cavs and Kings. These ratings are based on points not W-L.

  1. Boston was the superior team of the weekend and probably the best in the leauge. Lakers look like they are getting worse.

  2. Wayne,

Iam trying to understand how to derive your NBA power rankings. I read the pages in your book and from what I understand your adjusted +- is based on an extensive amount of year to date player stats which allows you to extract a team ranking. My question is can I use the most recent power rankings as a base or stating point and use stats from that day forward to derive rankings for the rest of the season? I want to simplify the process going forward if possible. Please feel free to tell me if I am complicating the process more than I should. Any help is appreciated.

  4. I simply use the scores of each game and come up with offense and defense ratings that best fit socres. See Mathletics book for a football example. I give more weight to more recent games before running solver.
